Test Description
Why get tested?
Abnormal HGH levels are harmful to health. Excess growth hormone can cause acromegaly and gigantism, whereas low HGH levels can retard the growth process. High HGH can also occur due to a tumor in the body. Moreover, abnormal HGH levels are often associated with disorders of the associated glands, such as the thyroid and the pituitary glands.
Growth hormone tests are typically recommended when a child or an individual is diagnosed with delayed puberty, and/or bone weakness.
In adults, abnormal growth hormone levels can reduce energy, strength, and muscle mass. This condition can also cause depression and increase the amount of fat in the body.
Several health problems can result in abnormal GH levels. Many tests can help identify if a child suffers from a deficiency of growth hormones. Some of these tests involve counting different hormones with only blood tests.
What is being tested?
The HGH test is to measure the quantity of the growth hormone released by the pituitary gland in the body. This test determines if the body has sufficient quantities of the human growth hormone (HGH) by testing a blood sample.
